Conservation Burial Preserve Consulting Services

Picture
While green burial is grounded in simplicity, land selection, legal issues, start-up, marketing and the nuts and bolts of doing green burial in a way that restores the land are all issues that need to be carefully considered and executed. Our goal is to make your journey toward creating a sustainable natural burial cemetery business.

As the pioneers of natural burial in the US, Billy and Kimberley have assisted many landowners and groups with information and site visits by offering fee for service consulting one rate past 20+ years.

You can begin budgeting for consulting services knowing that our average charge is around $2,000 a day plus expenses. But first know that our fee system is simple and unique: new cemetery operators pay us only when their project is deemed viable. Our priority is to share what we have learned so that new conservation burial operators will be able to build a strategic plan that works. That's why we put all our energy into collaborating with you without payment first as our way of helping protect your financial treasure box for what you will need to get your burial ground up and running. Your success is our success.

Our involvement can take one of two basic forms:
  1. Advisory only, with a base fee for guiding you through the process. Site visits will require a daily fee plus travel expense. These arrangements can include site selection and analysis, development of policy and procedure manuals, suggested easement language and initial training for green burial including a mock burial.
  2. Partnership agreements. In some locations, this will be our preferred or even exclusive arrangement. These agreements can be tailored for the particular circumstance. For non-profits partners, we can provide management services in a way that minimizes “mission creep”, financial risk for the partner organization, and that assures endowment funding as a first priority along with the lion’s share of income beyond expense. In partnerships with private individuals, we can negotiate arrangements depending on the degree of our long term management role.

Please note: We cannot assist a project that would directly compete with an existing one where we are already involved. We will give preference to projects with high conservation value/potential, those with good potential for financial success, those that benefit non-profit organizations, and those with a compelling story.

“...when we finally know we are dying, and all other sentient beings are dying with us, we start to have a burning, almost heartbreaking sense of the fragility and preciousness of each moment and each being, and from this can grow a deep, clear, limitless compassion for all beings.”
