Uniting ecology and community, creating a living legacies,
carrying love and respect for nature to the grave

Our Mission

Picture
Conservation burial preserves are nature preserves that allow for the sacred burial of human remains. These protected lands are economical, natural, and environmentally responsible natural areas that are specifically designed to save and restore significant wildlands and habitat for plants and animals. Burial on conserved land provides a deep connection to the land for friends and families whose loved ones are there.

In our conservation burial preserve, a significant part of the interment expense goes to purchasing, restoring, and maintaining the land and natural habitat for plants and animals. Full body burials and scattering of cremated remains occur in the preserve, but the interments must be natural, “dust to dust” burials: no toxic embalming fluids, no vaults, and only biodegradable caskets. Because these are often the most expensive items, the total funeral costs for burial at Ramsey Creek Preserve are much less than current averages. Because the total number of burials is strictly limited, far fewer interments occur than at usual cemeteries.

We aspire to protect, restore and permanently endow one million acres of wildlands over the coming decades. More than merely financing protection, the inherently spiritual nature of our endeavor means that we can foster closer ties between human communities and the natural communities that they depend on. We invite you to join us!

“What we’re doing is basically land conservation. By setting aside woods for natural burials, we preserve it from development. At the same time, I think we put death in its rightful place, as part of the cycle of life. Our burials honor the idea of dust to dust.”
